Hello All! |
|
First of all... It's a toss up for sweater patterns. I like these 4, but I can't decide which one I want to make.
Pattern 1
Pattern 2
Pattern 3
Pattern 4
Decisions, Decisions. However, if I am going to make any sort of progress on the baby items, I really need to concentrate on them alone. So the baby blanket is going to be a basic basket stitch blanket. I was going to try for elaborate but then I decided to be practical. This is a blanket that I want to be able to endure the tests of baby rearing. So sometimes, simply turns out to be the best way to go about things. I ordered the yarn for the dress. It's bright pink and going to look adorable. I am thinking about trying to stitch little flowers along the sides to add a little something to it. I figure even if I don't get it done by the time I see her, it'll be a nice surprise gift later.
In other news, school is going well enough. I hate Saturday morning Biology but I am surviving. I really need to answer the lab questions more completely. I only got a C+ on the first one. Hopefully this last one was filled out more accurately. We had a test today that I was up studying for all night. I think I faired about average on it. Which is exactly what I expect for Biology. My report went well and had all the key points needed. Next on the list is making up the lab I missed. In the math department, I had my first Elementary math class last Tuesday. I LOVE IT! The teacher is sooo helpful and nice. He walks you through everything 3 or 4 times so you really get was he's telling you. Here's hoping this time around math sticks. -=giggle=-
On the work front, I made up all my sick time that I took last week. So I still have one sick day left until the end of December. I was told on Friday that I am also getting a raise. It's nothing huge, only 5% but it's a raise and every cent counts in the long run.
In Media news, I watched The Hitcher (2007) today. Not a bad remake. Probably the only remake that I haven't loathed with all my being. I really need to re-watch the original though. There are a couple of things I remember being cooler in the original. Tomorrow we're going to my mom's house. It's been family weekend for the last couple of weekends. We're also taking my little brother to see Resident Evil: Extinction. I CAN'T WAIT! Apparently my little brother wouldn't go see it without me. I promised him I would take him when it was released so he waited on me to be available. We've gone to see every single one of them together. I also owe him a birthday gift so I'll probably take him to the mall before we go. Rambled a little, sorry about that.
I think that's about it really, I'll leave you with an adorable picture of Sigh. I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

Hi there morning blog readers,
I am writing a quick blog to ask you a question, and before my boss sees me writing, here it is:
What would be an easy but cute sweater to knit up?
I want to make something for when I go visit my dad in November. However, the patterns I like look way to advanced for me. The patterns that are easy, well they look like they are frumpy.
What do you think? Any advice for a newb? Or should I stop whining and jump into a hard project and see where it takes me ?Labels: Pattern Questions, Sweater |

Knitting on a Deadline |
Tuesday, September 25, 2007 |
Alright here's the briefing:
Definite Mission: 1 Baby Blanket
Sub-Mission: Baby Bell Bottoms and Blossom
If I have time: Booties
Deadline: October 20th, 2007
-=giggle=- Taking on a full load aren't I ? Grim's friend is due in November. She's inviting us up to her place in Connecticut on October 20th. The things I'll do for friends. However, I thought it would be nice to bring her up something. That means the ADS Vest is getting the back burner for a while.Labels: Baby Knitting, Mission |

Finally, Some Knitting |
Sunday, September 23, 2007 |
-=giggle=- I have been pushing a long very well with the Accidental Drop Stitch Vest. I have about 2 inches left to knit before I start the actual dropping stitch bind off process. It really is an easy knit so far, it's about 20 inches of Stockinette Stitch. Which in hindsight I wish I would have done a couple of rounds different at the bottom. I hate how Stockinette makes the edges curl up. Oh well, I don't think I can help it now. Anyways, here is a picture of the progress I have made.
More pictures soon! I am going to work on it more today!Labels: Accidental Drop Stitch Vest, Pictures |

4:00 am Update - Picture Heavy! |
|
So game night has been moved from Fridays to Saturdays since I am now spending my Saturday mornings wishing I was dead (Biology Class 10:00 am). That means Saturday evening is dedicated to catching up and updating my blogs. So here we go.. the Update:
The Week in a Nutshell: Monday I woke up at 6 in the morning to get ready for work. As I am moving around I get hit with the worse case of nausea I have had in a LONG time. I call work and tell them that I am going to be late. I need to rest. I wake up at 7, same thing. I wake up at 9, again the sickness. Finally after it happens two more times, I call off sick. ARGH! The rest of the day is spend movie watching and knitting. Of course, random moments of nausea and the deep sleep that only sickness can bring. Tuesday, I am still feeling sick but I drag my arse to work. I work until around 2 then go to the doctor's office. Determination: A low grade version of the stomach flu. Yeah Me! She gives me anti-nausea meds and I am sent on my happy way. The rest of the week was really long. 9 and 10 hour days trying to regain any sick time I can. And Now...
Friday: Lastnight, our friend's band, Sunset Aside had a CD release show. They booked The Brides as an opening act! I was more than excited. I LOVE The Brides. Of Course I love Sunset Aside too. That goes without saying. So anyway... The major problem with the venue, is that this place is TINY. The tables were pushed so close to the stage it was hard to maneuver. It's an eatery/bar/venue. So anyway... The Brides start rocking out and I can't contain myself. I get up and start dancing in the space available. After two songs or so, Grim gets up and starts pushing over tables to make room and I help out. After another couple of minutes, there are others up there dancing. WOOT!! The more the merrier. So I am shouting along, dancing and having a great time. All to quickly it ends and they haven't played my song yet. So I walk up to the stage to ask them to play one more... Grim knows that I can't project my voice well, so he yells out " Play HI!" I sat at the edge of the stage, hands cupped in begging. Julia (Keyboardist) points to me and says play it for her. She's got enthusiasm! The drummer D.W. says, Yea! Valerie wants to hear "Hi!". They talk for a minute about if they have time and then.. THEY PLAY IT!! I could have flown away! I was that happy. Much dancing and fun was had by all. So we hang out for a bit, I snap a couple of pictures. Sunset Aside sets up and starts to play. They were awesome. I love their sound! For some reason, their music reminds me of a Quentin Tarantino (sp?) movie. Unfortunately, we couldn't stay but a half an hour into their set. Like I said, I have class Saturday mornings. So we head out after a couple of songs and Greg, D.W. and Corey (from The Brides) are outside smoking. We chatted with them for a bit before heading home. They are the coolest bunch of guys I have ever met. I mean I knew D.W. was cool, we always chat with him when they're in town. So to continue, Grim and I won't get married for a while, but if we do... The Brides said they would play it!! -=giggle=- Also Greg is an ordained minister. -=chuckles=- He could marry us. From the sounds of D.W.'s wedding, we might just have then organize the whole event for us. Anyways, lots of fun was had by all. Great times, with Great Friends, Great Bands and Drinks!! See pictures!

Here is also a very poorly lit video. Unfortunately, the lighting was also bad.

Random Photos from the Evening:

Grim Rocking the Cane! Crazy Boy.
Saturday: Woke up and spent the entire morning, praying to get struck by lightening. I hate biology or maybe I hate it that early in the morning. From school I went to Goodwill (random stop) and checked out their dress boot selection. I found a pair, MY SIZE, Huzzah! I also managed to find two work blouses and a REALLY cute black lace tank top. Oh add another Plath poetry book and The Notebook by Sparks to the list. Next to E.B Games to return the sucky version of "The Fog" for the awesome version of "The Fog". I love the old one and I HATE the new one. Came home, took a nap, made cookies and went to game... Now here I am.. typing away.
Tomorrow: Family day at Grim's parent's house. I need to get some homework done and more knitting! -=giggle=- OH! Before I forget! A SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO ADELE AND JEN FOR HELPING ME WITH MY HSKS BAG PATTERN!!
I think that is honestly, all I have right now. -=giggle=- I did add the picture for the Accidental Drop Stitch Vest though. So take a peak!
Okay it took 45 minutes to write all that out.. Time for sleep.
Night night all!!

Hi There! |
Sunday, September 16, 2007 |
I wanted to drop in and write a quick blog regarding what has been going on lately. Which really isn't that much to be honest. -=giggle=- I'll think through it in lists so I know I didn't miss anything.
School: I successfully managed to run around campus Wed and Thursday and get everything situated for "dropping down" to Elementary Math. Everyone kept trying to change my mind. Eventually, I plainly said "Look, I'm math dumb, I am not going to stay in a class and fail it just to see if I can actually accomplish anything at an advanced level." After that, everything got arranged. Then I went to the bookstore and found out that I can trade in my Intermediate Algebra book for the one needed for Elementary Algebra. Woot!! I was happy about that one. I didn't want to have to shell out another $100 dollars for school books.
HSKS 3: I haven't started the bag yet for my partner. Adele helped me a bit with the measurements and trying to increase the size of the bag. I just get nervous casting on more stitches and making it longer. It's a shaped bag so what if I end up making it look lopsided. If anyone wants the pattern to see what I am talking about, I will send it to you. Also, -=giggle=- I rarely give hints to partners as to what I want.. but this.. is toooo damn cute!! -=wink, nudge=- I am going to be getting the final details together next week for my partner. Then I am digging into knitting the bag. Oh! The Hufflepuff team got full marks for Participation and we found the Snitch! We're now leading in the house race for the cup! -=dances a jig=- I was hoping we would get full marks for participation that way I could do my drawing at the end of the Quidditch season. (End of Oct). I decided that if we got full marks for all activities, we would have a drawing and the winner would get some form of yarnie goodness.
Knitting: I actually did do a little knitting today. Hold you gasps everyone! I swatched for the Accidentally on Purpose Drop Stitch Vest from Stitch'n'Bitch Nation. The yarn I am going to use is the yarn I thought I was going to make into the fingerless gloves. Turns out, that yarn is a little to thin for those warmers. Not to mention, I am really starting to get irritated with DPNs! They're just tooo damn weird to hold. So here's the question of the day. Can you just use circular needles and get the same result? If not, why? Oh, I also rolled up my first skein of yarn and it didn't knot and take me 2 hours to get untangles. -=giggle=-
Media: Deadwood is so awesome. I can't even accurately explain and do it any justice. The character development and transition is phenomenal! You feel for every single character shown, even the bad guys. The story lines draw you in and hook you! I can't believe they canceled it!!! Grim and I are through the 2nd Season and starting the third and final season Monday. After that, that's it. No more Deadwood. Le Sigh. First Queer as Folk, then Firefly, now Deadwood. That sucks. Anyways, continuing on. Keeping to the Western theme, Date night this weekend was spent watching 3:10 to Yuma. Awesome movie! Russell Crowe plays an amazing villian. He's got the look that gives him that edge. Christian Bale, just plan kicks ass as an actor any way you look at it. I love watching any movie he is in. It was just brilliant. Action packed and worth the money to see on the Big Screen. Now, the unfortunate part of this whole movie experience. Were the damn old people not young but older people.. Talking behind us... LOUD. Now I don't know if they couldn't hear how loud they were talking or what... but Jesus Christ. I was getting mad. Grim even politely turned around and asked them to whisper. They just looked at him. So a little while in they still talk.. I grab Grim's arm and move. I was so pissed at these people for not being respectful enough to keep quiet. Kids I can see being d*cks but not these folks. God I was mad. So if you go to see the movie, bring a frying pan in case you have a talker behind you.
Weekend: Like I said, tonight was date night. We do that from time to time so that we don't lose the fun of going out and doing something. You know, sometimes when you get wrapped up in daily life you just don't have time to be together. We made a promise to eachother never to be that way. So at least 2 or 3 times a month we go out and just do things together. Mostly it's movies because Grim knows that's my thing. -=giggle=- Tomorrow, the school is having a Craft Festival that I intend to go and check out. Wish me luck on good yarn finds.
For tonight dears, I think that's about it.
Night night!

We all go a little mad sometimes... |
|
Brownie points to the person who knows what movie I am quoting. -=giggle=- The reason for the quote is simple... I have been going through HSKS 3 blogs, one by one, looking for the stupid SNITCH! -=giggle=- I started at work and then reworked them when I went home. It never occurred to me to write Adele - Hufflepuff Prefect and ask if they usually send the snitch out immediatly. She hasn't responded. I feel confident though that either it hasn't been released yet or -=giggle=- It's deeper in people's blogs and if that's the case... I will be doing my best and cheering all the while, but putting nowhere near as much time into it as I did today.
Yes.. I am mad.. -=giggle=- Or I just seriously get involved in the things I jump into. Which accounts for why I was dubbed official cheerleader for the Hufflepuffs. First I changed my coloring, then I made the banner, then I went online and located a fight song for Hufflepuffs and posted it on Quidditch day. -=giggle=-
I need to knit more and spend less time on the internet. It is official. Also, it's official... I am a DORK. -=giggle=- Nothing wrong with that but somedays it hits you like a train.
In another news, I am officially OVER 6,000 hits now. -=does a dance=- People are really just coming to see what else I'll come up with to cheer my Hufflepuff Classmates on. -=giggle=-
No new knitting but I did get the bag I am going to be making for my HSKS pal swatched. On that note... I know I have friends out here that know how to alter and change patterns so that they both look good and make sense. I need help making this bag bigger. I know reworking patterns involved a lot of math. I hate math.. which I think is pretty obvious. I'd really appreciate the help and some little goodies might float your way. Please send me an email if you want to give me a hand or look over the pattern.
Also I wanted everyone to know that I am feeling alot better. For now, I am alright. I have an appointment to see the GI doctor at the end of this month. I haven't had anymore painful episodes. I have gained a couple of pounds back and I am able to keep food in my stomach. I should probably jump on the phone and ask them how my Ultrasound went. They never called me. I guess it's the "No news is good news" mentality of mine. Not to self, call them tomorrow.
School wise, I am dropping from Intermediate Algebra to Elementary Algebra. A hit to the ego but a realistic step. I got the teacher's signature today and I have to get the Dean's approval tomorrow. Intermediate Algebra was an unrealistic idea. I thought I was good on the first day but on day two he pulled out the big guns. I ran away, kicking and screaming. All is well though, I'll start classes on Tuesday next week. I have missed one class already so I am going to have to play catch up.
OH! OH! I need a sounding board on a project! However, I need someone who has read "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath and is NOT involved in Knit the Class (KTC) or is not looking to enter in to create a project. I have an idea but I want someone's opinion on it. Grim sort of just looked at me and said that was cool aka what the hell are you talking about ? Besides that, I think I gave a very poorly description of what the book was about. I will love the volunteer with every ounce of me.
Other than that dears, I think that's about it. Or at least.. I am blanking on any other important details.
Until Next Time..

A Day Late! |
|
I know, I know I broke a promise. I am sorry all!
Other than working and school, I haven't been up to much lately. No new knitting, although I plan on starting the bag for my HSKS 3 swap soon. The problem is finding the perfect pattern. I believe I have already found the sock pattern that would go well with the yarn I got for her. Pounce, Moontear and I went to my favorite yarn store of all time today for Moontear's Birthday. So I picked up a couple of odds and ends I wanted to throw in the package for my pal!
I also made a purchase for myself. Take a look at this beautiful yarn! It's Hacho by Mirasol. 100% Hand Dyed Merino Wool.
These are eventually going to be made into this. Which works since Pounce is planning on making me a black and turqouise scarf and hat set. It should match wonderfully.
On the work front, I don't know if I mentioned that I had my yearly review and it went very well. I haven't heard anything about a raise yet but I am keeping my fingers crossed.
School, is going to be a pain this semester but I can handle it. Intermediate Algebra class will be the biggest challenge I have. I am not particularly fond of math and often feel like the dunce of the class. It was helpful that he went over the basics again. He reminded me of the things I had forgotten about. Biology - Environmental Sciences only sucks because it's on a Saturday. I think that working in a company of Environmental Engineers will be extremely helpful if I get stuck on anything.
A lot of people were curious about the sock yarn I was asking about. As much as I would KILL for that yarn. I didn't purchase it. I was just asking so that I would know what I was looking for when buying sock yarn for my pal. I love that particular colorway, I think it's beautiful. Thank you for all your help everyone, I appreciate it!
Oh, I can't lie. I think alot of my knitting time when to watching Deadwood. We got the second season on Friday. Any spare time I have had went to watching that. -=giggle=- What an awesome show!
Alright.. -=giggle=- I can't think of anymore to type at 3:30 in the morning so I am going to leave you for tonight. I'll probably blog more tomorrow when I am not as tired as I am right now.
Night night all!

Labor Day End. |
|
I always love three day weekends but you always wish for that one extra day to do all the little things you didn't get done. -=giggle=- We've been so busy this weekend that we haven't gone grocery shopping or picked up the apartment. It's not really a mess or anything but the cat hair is starting to look like the tumbleweed blowing around in western movies. -=giggle=-
Again, no knitting since I have been so busy. However, I am getting everything together for my HSKS 3 partner, Melissa. I am going to start everything tomorrow and work on them at a pace. I have until October 31st. I don't want to send out everything too early.
Yesterday was game day. We junked the Aces and Eights campaign due to GM (Game Master) boredom. So we moved onto Vampire: The Requiem. We had so much fun we didn't realize that the time had passed so quickly. I looked at my clock and it was 2 am, I looked at my clock again a little later and it's nearing 4. -=giggle=- That's how you know a campaign is good. It hooks you into it.
Today we got together with a bunch of friends for a BBQ. It was a nice outing. I enjoyed hanging out and conversating with everyone. One of our friend's cousins is interested in getting us involved in Warhammer 40k. That should be neat to try again.
Other than that, we just got home and I am seriously exhausted now. -=giggle=- So with that, I think I will make some tea, turn on Deadwood and get a little knitting done before bed.

I Think I'm a Dork. |
|
That or I seriously should go to bed. -=giggle=- It's nearly 5 in the morning. I have been out dancing and drinking. Yet here I am making Hufflepuff banners and re-doing my background for the Hogwarts Sock/Scarf Kit Swap. -=giggle=- An overload of spirit and enthusiasm or no life at all? -=giggle=- That remains a debatable question.
I wanted to do a quick update before bed though.
No new knitting to report yet. Sorry all, with my tummy being upset I haven't been in the mood to knit. I am feeling much better though. I went to the doctors on Thursday. They did a pelvic u/s to see if anything was up. I'll have the results back on Tuesday. The doctor set me up with an appointment to see the GI specialist next month. Wippie (sarcasm). I just want to feel better.
Yesterday a bunch of us went out and saw the new Halloween. Someone besides me has to think that Rob Zombie is a hack director. I mean the movie was good if you didn't acknowledge others were made. The kid that played the young Michael Myers was creepy as all hell. Ultimately it was a slasher flick and a pretty good one. I would wait to rent it on Netflix personally. Side tracked, back to Zombie. This guy can't come up with anything original. From the 2 movies of his I have seen it seems like he regurgitated old GOOD horror movies and put a spin on them to make them "different". This is not original. On that note, most of these movies similar by any other director are just as bad. However, they don't keep putting their no-talent wife in major parts of the movie. Okay, ranted a bit. Sorry. -=giggle=-
Saturday (Today)- My boss took me out for a pedicure and manicure because of the tough week I had. I got a french pedicure and my nails are painted a purple/black color. From there I went straight to the salon. I cut my hair off and got purple/blue highlight put into my hair. (Pictures to come soon). Then I came home, took a nap, watched another episode of Deadwood (God I love that show) and went out dancing at Alien Nation! Lots of fun was had by all and my legs are aching as a result of not dancing for months. A little drama occured between Grim and a bunch of guys that thought it would be fun to pick on a group of girls (Myself and 4 others). That was cleared up. Most of them were to drunk to see straight to even know which direction to throw a punch. I was at one point a little worried though.
So that's about it. I believe I have rambled enough this evening.
Night night all!

HSKS 3 Questionnaire |
Saturday, September 1, 2007 |
1. What Hogwarts house have you been sorted into? Hufflepuff!! 2. List your favorite double-point needle brands, including size and length. Or would you prefer circulars? I just started learning with DPNs so I don't have a particular favorite. I like DPNs alot primarily bamboo . I don't have a favorite size. 3. Would you like to try a new brand needle? If so, which brand? Size? Length? Sure, I am open to new possibilities. I am a little bit of a newbie when it comes to different knitting needles though so I couldn't tell you the brand.
4. If you are a RAVENCLAW, do you prefer the colors in the film or the book? Do you have a strong preference? N/A
5. Do you have any allergies? Scratchy wool makes me break out in hives and so does Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk.
6. If you are swapping scarves - what is your desired length for the pattern? This will help your partner find the pattern that is just right for you and buy yarn accordingly. N/A
