This poncho is really really repeatitious. Knit 6 knit into front and back of 7th stitch, knit rest. I have to get 120 or so stitches before I move on to the hood. Then I have to go down the back in the same pattern but with decreases.. This might make me go insane. -=giggle=- I think I'll probably pause from this project for a bit and start working on my grandma's cable scarf.

First Set
I got bored and I don't feel like knitting yet. So I decided to try out making my own stitch markers. I had already bought most of the materials anyway. Why not put them to good use. This is what came out of my craftiness.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Very basic, alittle crooked but not terrible in my opinion. I'll get better at it and then I'll start getting the really exotic looking beads to play with.

The Lovely Weekend
It's snowing out today so I have been holed up inside. I missed my Enterlac class which sucks but what can you do. The roads were rrreeeaaally bad and my life is more important than a class. Besides I want to live to be able to use the ability anyway. So I stopped off at the library because I drove in a big circle to get home and library is on the way. They had a couple of books I wanted on hold for me. DomiKNITrix and a new speed knitting book. I was hoping to find a cool pattern for my grandmother's scarf. So far that has been unsuccessful. I put it to the boards and we'll see the suggestions. Then I rented mindless movies I have seen a dozen or so times to knit to. Winners: Down and Out in Beverly Hills and She-Devil. Reminder to self: Stop keeping them until they are way overdue.

I came home after that and did a complete and total clean job on the apartment. I even washed the bathroom floors. I get weird cleaning urges like that. Usually it's best to leave me to it until I fizzle out or something. I am doing all this on five hours sleep. Don't ask me how I stayed awake this long. I even made muffins. -=giggle=- So after all is said and done I am getting stir crazy and cranky because I am starting to get sleepy. Instead of sleep, I go out to A.C. Moore and buy my 7" straight bamboo needles for my lace shawl and cable needles. (Thinking about Cabling my grandma's scarf). The lines were hellish and I seriously mean it when I say that these women do not get paid enough to put up with the shit people give them. She told me what she made, (without my asking because while I may be a curious person I am not rude) and I asked her if they chipped in hazard pay on days when they have sales. She laughed. I wasn't kidding. People were unnecessarily rude. Although I made a women's day I believe. I had an extra 50% off coupon so I just asked if she had one, when she said no I handed it to her. I wasn't going to use it and if you don't have to pay more for it, then why should you ?

Anyways, so I finally get out of there and go to Pet Smart. Get stuck in line behind a guy who is hassling another clerk. Eventually I get checked out while fighting off the urge to go and adopt all the kitties they have on the adopt a pet wall. I get home, knit for a while... sleep an hour exactly.

Dinner, A movie, company. I finally got to see my friend before he leaves tomorrow. Other than that, nothing else to report. My presentation went very well. I got sick on Thursday from a dentist appointment procedure on Wednesday. ( My body does not like Novacaine). I might have to work a bit tomorrow morning. I hope not but we'll see. Tomorrow is grocery shopping day and nothing else. I want to knit up at least part of this poncho.

I am off for a bath and bed.

Night world.

The Start of My Poncho
Wednesday, January 24, 2007
It's coming along nicely and knitting up really quickly. I am hoping to get this done before the first of February so that I can start on my Green Hat. The day was uneventful really. I skipped out on Spanish class because I went to the dentist today. I ended up needing to get a tooth filled. Blegh. Novacaine always makes me feel sick and I just in an all around bad mood.

I have a presentation due tomorrow. I am going to write it up tommorrow and get the ingredients. I was originally going to make plaster cast masks. I don't know why it is easier for me to find the plaster in a place like Ohio but it was. I have called dozens of stores, went to countless pharmacies. I got lucky when I went to my former podiatrist but he didn't have enough to give me the full amount that I needed. So plan B. I was thinking about demonstrating how to knit. That however is really not condusive to an actual demostration, besides I amalot better just doing something than I am teaching someone else step by step.
I finally decided on making Muddy Buddies. They have a microwave downstairs for me to melt the ingredients and it doesn't take much. Besides everyone likes eating demostrations. Here's the recipe.
9cups Chex® cereal (any variety)
1cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2cup peanut butter
1/4cup butter or margarine
1teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1.Into large bowl, measure cereal; set aside.
2.In 1-quart microwavable bowl, stir together chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter. Microwave uncovered on High 1 minute; stir. Microwave about 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth. Stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag.
3.Add powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

Stove-Top Directions:
Into large bowl, measure cereal; set aside. In 1-quart saucepan, heat chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter over low heat, stirring frequently, until melted. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag. Add powdered sugar. Seal bag; shake until well coated. Spread on waxed paper to cool. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

Enjoy! More to come when I get the time for more knitting, or something else note worthy comes up.

Sleep Deprivation
Tuesday, January 23, 2007
No knitting tonight because I am exhausted. I slept maybe 3 or 4 hours total lastnight. I was going to call off work this morning, that's how tired I was. I didn't though, too much work to do and I have a dentist appointment tomorrow. I took a long nap when I got home which might hinder the ability to sleep a full night tonight. Oh well, I couldn't keep my eyes open.

Knitting related - I got my magazines from Ebay today. Knit 1 Spring 2005 and Vogue Knitting 2005/2006. There are a couple of patterns I am going to work on after I finish everything. I'll post when I get to working on them. I also went out with my 40% off coupon to A.C. Moore and got my 8.0mm Circular Needles. I needed to make myself feel better so I got them for when my green yarn comes in for my Hat.

Well all, I am going to bed.

Goodnight.

Green Hats and Black Ponchos
Monday, January 22, 2007
So Get Stitchy is having a Green Hat Along. Essentially people sign up and on February 1st they start knitting their hat. People take pictures of their WIPS and on St. Patty's day or march you have to post a picture of yourself in your new hat. It's a cute idea and a reason for me to buy more yarn to be honest. -=giggle=- I found the pattern I am going to use, it's called a monk hat and I found it while randomly roaming the internet at work. Anyways, here are the yarns I just ordered from Knitpicks. I figure the multi colored yarn will be the main part and the solid color will be the brim. I'll figure it out as I go along though.

I started on my Poncho and here is a link to the site with the pattern. I am lazy and unless I have to I really don't feel like typing all this out. Lion Brand Homespun Poncho.
It's knitting up pretty quickly actually. I also loooovee the feeling of Homespun so all is well. Tomorrow I think I am going to go and buy my bamboo needles for the shawl. We'll see.

Non-Knitting related. Work was busy and tomorrow will be even busier. I have an instructional speech due on Thursday. I finally finished my Spanish homework. Tomorrow I need to hang out with a friend of mine who is moving back to Jersey. Wednesday I have a dentist appointment. Friday is Evil Campaign Day. Saturday, maybe a moment to relax. Nope now that I think of it I have Enterlac class I have to call about. Sunday I think is family day at Grim (my boyfriend's house)

Busy Busy Busy.

Frogging
Sunday, January 21, 2007
So I must report that while working on my lace shawl lastnight, I dropped a stitch. From there it went right out the window. I have been using metal needles so I think I am going to go and get myself a set of bamboo ones. Hopefully that works better with the lace. For now though I am going to start working on my poncho. The Homespun LionBrand is really nice to work with, it's also a really easy pattern that I will post with pictures later.

An Introduction
Saturday, January 20, 2007
This is my first entry in my brand new knitting blog. I don't know how popular this is going to be but I thought what the hell and made one anyway. Knitting related news, I went to A.C. Moore with a fellow knitter and friend Liz. Unfortunately the 75% all yarn sale was a sham. It's only 75% off selected yarn. I bought 4 skeins of LionBrand Homespun for my poncho and 2 soft RedHeart skeins with some fuzzy soft yarn to go with it for my Grandmother's scarf. She ended up getting two different shades of pink RedHeart for a Coat for her friend's puppy. I know everyone turns their nose at RedHeart but the stuff I got for my Grandma was the soft stuff. I tested it myself and would never make anything for my Grandmother that was sh*tty. So There! =P

I am currently working on two projects. The first one is a basket weave scarf for my boyfriend's brother. It sucks when you are almost done you have a little more to do then you run out of yarn. So I have to make the hike up to A.C. Moore about 45 minutes away (the A.C. Moore closer to me doesn't have the yarn I am using)

Pattern:
1st Row- (Right Side) Knit
2nd Row - Purl
3rd Row - K2, *P4, K2; Repeat from * to end
4th Row - P2,* K4, P2; Repeat from * to end
Repeat last two rows once more
7th Row - Knit
8th Row Purl
9th Row - P3, *K2,P4; Repeat from * to last 5 sts, K2, P3
10th Row- K3,*P2,K4; Repeat from * to last 5 sts P2, K3
Repeat the last two rows once more
Repeat 12 rows

I'm pretty happy with the results. It's a little bulky though so we'll see what happens with it when he puts it on. I hope he wears it, this thing is the first real pattern I have ever tried.

The second project is a shoulder wrap made from Lionbrand Ribbon Yarn. I'll post pictures as I work on it along with the pattern in case anyone is interested.

More to come later.
